NewProofreading and Editing
Proofreading seeks to eliminate errors from our writing. Editing seeks to improve our writing’s style. The two sets of skills overlap. In this intensive and practical course, you’ll work on both. The result? You’ll feel confident that your writing will be well-presented and readable.
The course is intensely practical. We use a set of exercises to demonstrate a range of proofing activities. Optional sessions are available, on proofreading transcripts, and on using proofreading marks.
Editing is the process of improving the style of our writing. We develop a strategic approach to editing, working on paragraphs, sentences, and words, in that order. We explore methods of evaluating and measuring readability, as well as online tools for improving grammar, punctuation and style.
The course also includes a number of opportunities for Q&A sessions, so that delegates can explore specific issues or skills relevant to their own work.
This course is suitable for anyone who needs to proofread or edit documents to a high standard. It will be especially relevant for people who produce reports as part of strategic decision-making, who write or edit transcripts of meetings, or who work in publications departments of public sector organisations.
