The HR function has wide-ranging responsibilities in carrying out employee-related activities as well as ensuring that the organisation is compliant with employment law and has the required HR policies and procedures to ensure success for the organisation and the people employed within it.
As a line manager there are many challenges to managing a team of staff and the expectation now is that in many organisations that the HR Function is there to guide, support and advise both the staff and the managers.
In an ever-changing business world, line managers may have the technical expertise but may need to enhance their knowledge with their management of people.
There will be an opportunity for line managers to bring any challenging issues that they may be experiencing in their departments as these issues could be used as real-life scenarios in a confidential setting.
This course will be of interest to any new manager or recently promoted managers. This course would also be of use and interest to any technical managers with people responsibilities who are looking to enhance and build their people management skills. You may be interested in this course if there have been any changes to the way your HR function is operating.
Participants will gain an awareness of their role when managing their staff. The course will give participants an opportunity to look at good practice and focus on key areas that are HR related. This one-day programme will enable managers to enhance their people management skills as well as acknowledge the need for robust HR policies and procedures within the organisation.

Read BioAnn is currently a trainer at Civil Service College. Ann previously worked at RIPA International as Director of Studies. In this role she was responsible for the design and delivery of all HR, management, and leadership programmes for Senior Overseas Government officials attending London based training. Additionally, Ann has designed and delivered bespoke in country training programmes in a variety of countries including Qatar, Bahrain, Dominica, Botswana, Thailand, Libya, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Kosovo, Uganda Zambia and the Falkland Islands.
Ann also undertakes Executive Coaching /360 feedback and has worked extensively with many Senior Civil Servants in this capacity.
Prior to joining RIPA International, Ann served as Senior Learning and Development Consultant at The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. In this role she designed and delivered a range of bespoke HR / Leadership courses as well as directing the NVQ Level 4 Management programme for the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Additionally, she organised conferences for top managers and carried out workplace mediation.
Ann has worked to provide exceptional training in both the private and public sector for over two decades. She possesses extensive experience in delivering domestic and overseas training on a variety of topics such as leadership, performance management, mediation in the workplace, train the trainer, developing a competency framework, and coaching programmes. She is a qualified and experienced OCN Law Society Mediator and Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Coach. Additionally, Ann is a member of the Association of Coaching and a Fellow of the Learning and Performance Institute.
